IHOBF-Boston's first year of Blues Schoolhouse programming begins

IHOBF’s Blues SchoolHouse transforms the House of Blues venue into a multimedia classroom

By TuBoston.com
BOSTON, MA.-  International House of Blues Foundation®-Boston’s (IHOBF-Boston) first year of Blues SchoolHouse programming will begin this April, with the program taking place on select weekday mornings at House of Blues-Boston (15 Lansdowne Street, Boston, MA 02215).

IHOBF’s Blues SchoolHouse transforms the House of Blues venue into a multimedia classroom where 5th-12th grade students and their teachers learn about the music, history and cultural impact of the blues and traditions of related folk art.  Program components include 1) a guided tour/presentation of the House of Blues art collection and related hands-on art activity based on the work of an artist featured in the collection; 2) a live interactive musical presentation tracing the history of blues music from its roots in African culture through its emergence and evolution as a unique American music form and its influence on other contemporary music forms; 3) a 120-page classroom guide; and 4) teacher workshops that support participants in preparing for the program.  The program is approximately 2 hours in length and is offered on weekday mornings during the school year.  The Blues SchoolHouse program is also available for adult groups.

To obtain additional information about the program or the IHOBF, please contact IHOBF-Boston Program Director Pamela Ward via email at ihobfboston@livenation.com or by phone at 617-960-8380.
