FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – A spot in the Eastern Conference Championship is on the line this Thursday night, Nov. 6, when the New England Revolution battles the rival Chicago Fire at Toyota Park in Game Two of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series. A scoreless draw in the playoff opener at Gillette Stadium leaves the clubs tied entering the decisive second game, which will be televised nationally on ESPN2 as part of its season-long Primetime Thursday lineup, with a live half-hour pregame show beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET and kickoff set for approximately 8:50 p.m. ET. Radio listeners can tune into a live English broadcast on the WEEI Radio Network, while ESPN Deportes Radio will carry the game nationally in Spanish.
Because the Revs and Fire are tied (0-0) entering Game Two, the winner of Thursday night’s match will advance to the conference title game to meet either the Columbus Crew or the Kansas City Wizards, while the losing team’s season will end. If the match is tied after regulation, a 30-minute mini game will be played to decide a winner. If the clubs are still tied after the mini game, the series will be decided on penalty kicks.
If the Revs are to advance to their record seventh straight Eastern Conference Championship, they’ll have to do something that they haven’t been able to do in five previous chances – avoid defeat in Chicago in the postseason. New England is 0-5-0 in five previous playoff games in the Windy City and has been outscored, 12-2, in those five matches. However, Chicago was 0-6-0 in six previous playoff games in New England entering this postseason and managed a draw in Game One, proving that it can be done.
