Winner of two consecutive Juno Awards (Canada's Grammy) for his acclaimed albums "Humo de Tabaco" (2006) and "Agua del Pozo" (2008), the northern B.C.-based, Cuban-born Alex Cuba (Alexis Puentes) returns to Boston for only his second show ever in the city.

2008 has been a sizzling year for the Cuban soul rocker with sell-outs in Memphis (Buckman Center), New York (Joe's Pub), Chicago (World Music Festival). He was one of the "discovery" acts at SXSW and at the LAMC (Latin Alternative Music Conference), won a Western Canadian Music Award and won an "indie" award at Canadian Music Week. His acclaimed Boston debut happened in May of this year. This fall, he comes back to the U.S. after playing at the WOMEX conference in Seville, dates in Barcelona, London and at the Canadian Music Trade Mission in Tokyo.

His new album "Agua del Pozo" (Well Water) shot up to #1 on the Tropical Album Chart and #7 on the overall Latin chart on the heels of his iTunes U.S. Latino and World Single of the Week (SOTW) last April. Lead-off track "Amor Infinito" was the SOTW with on iTunes Japan in July and will be the SOTW with iTunes Netherlands beginning November 11th. All the more remarkable is that as a digitally savvy artist who owns his own master and publishing, Cuba does not have a physical distribution or licensing deal outside of Canada. Yet.

Born in Artemisa, Cuba (one hour west of Havana) and now residing in Smithers, B.C. (14 hours north of Vancouver), the globetrotting Alex Cuba has toured the U.S., Japan and the U.K. Not your traditional Cuban musician, Cuba punches through the sometimes restrictive "World Music" moniker by sporting a retro-fro, vintage tee-shirts and bell bottoms while dropping sugar cane-sweet melodies, pop/soul hooks and rock chords.  He plays a Gibson 355 electric guitar, there's no cowbell here, folks.

"Standout tunes include the ecstatic title track, the gentle romance of "Si Pero No," and the jazzy yearning of "Mariposa." His gift for balladry and danceable Cuban son will be on display…" – New York Newsday
